ATLANTA, July 7 (UPI) -- Georgia authorities are holding a man of Pakistani descent in the strangulation death of his 25-year-old daughter.

Police say Chaudhry Rashad, 54, became angry when his daughter, Sandela Kanwal, told him she wanted out of her arranged marriage, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday.

Authorities say Kanwal had been living at her parents' home in Jonesboro for the past three months after leaving her husband in Chicago.

Neighbors described the family as quiet.

A spokesman for Clayton County police indicated a language barrier was hampering their investigation.

Rashad was scheduled to make an initial court appearance Monday.
