NEPTUNE, N.J., July 6 (UPI) -- Crews were searching Sunday for the pilot of a home-built airplane that crashed in New Jersey and officials said his body might be embedded in mud at the scene.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane that crashed in a shallow part of Monmouth County's Shark River Saturday evening was an RV-7 aircraft registered to Richard Jahns of Point Pleasant Beach, N.J., The (Newark) Star-Ledger reported.
Jahns had told people he built the plane in his garage, the newspaper said. Reporters said they were unable to contact him Sunday.
Crews working to remove debris had not located any victims, so officials have been unable to confirm the identity of the pilot, Sgt. Stephen Jones said.
FAA investigators were looking into the incident.
