Painter found British spy coated in blood

LONDON, July 6 (UPI) -- Alex Allan, chairman of Britain's Joint Intelligence Committee, was found covered in blood by a wildlife painter, the spy agency chief's neighbor says.

An unidentified neighbor said artist Dominique Salm found the 57-year-old top spy inside his home and likely may have saved his life by contacting authorities, The Mail on Sunday reported.

"Apparently there was blood everywhere," the neighbor said of Thursday's events.

"We didn't know what was the matter with him," the unidentified source added. "The next day all the police came and were looking round his house."

Salm's mother, Sally, told the Mail her daughter has already been asked not to comment on the case while investigators attempt to determine what caused Allan to lapse into a coma.

"Some very serious people have asked Dominique not to comment on any of this until it has been fully investigated and she is doing just that," the elder Salm said.

Allan is currently under police guard undergoing a litany of medical tests. The Mail said Scotland Yard officials have labeled Allan's case a non-suspicious situation.
