The Coastal Region's central investigative unit working with Israeli Customs Authority officials found 230 pounds of cocaine on a ship carrying cargo from Colombia to Israel last month, the Jerusalem Post said. The cocaine was packed into coffee containers. Officials said no one has yet been arrested in connection with the discovery.
The drugs were worth an estimated $15 million, officials said.
It wasn't the first major anti-drug police action in Israeli this year. Some 30,000 Ecstasy pills were seized last November as they were on their way from Europe to Israel in two separate shipments, the Post said. Some of the pills came in a Belgian package addressed to an 81-year-old Italian tourist staying at a Tiberias hotel.
