HOUSTON, July 1 (UPI) -- An escaped Texas convict known as the Santa Claus Bandit was back in jail Tuesday after allegedly going on a crime spree while free.

Patrick Bigelow, 44, of Katy, Texas, apprehended Monday in Houston by Texas Rangers, was charged with abducting a 69-year-old man and robbing two banks in the one day he was out of jail, KVUE-TV, Houston, reported.

Police said they believe Bigelow's mother aided him in his Sunday escape from the Fayette County Justice Center in La Grange, Texas, in which he allegedly overpowered a female jailer.

Authorities said Bigelow allegedly robbed two banks in College Station, Texas, which he had also robbed earlier as the Santa Claus Bandit, so-called because he wore a wig and fake beard during the stickups, the station said.

Police told Fortbendnow.com, Houston, they used a cell phone GPS system to track Bigelow to the Houston motel where he was then apprehended.
