HUNTSVILLE, Ala., June 30 (UPI) -- A microburst is blamed for toppling several massive tents at an air show in Huntsville, Ala., killing a 5-year-old boy and injuring 12 other people.
Witnesses said there were several minutes of horror as a giant air-conditioning unit blew over along with the tents, The Huntsville Times reported Monday.
Tens of thousands of people were gathered at the airport Sunday to see the Navy's Blue Angels and other pilots when the powerful thunderstorm blew in.
"Everything was flying -- chairs, tables," Mark Craig told the Times, "and I turned around and my wife's just standing there bleeding."
A spokesman for emergency medical operations said it took 46 minutes from the time the storm hit until the last patient arrived at the emergency room.
Unsettled conditions along with cooler air were expected Monday in the U.S. Northeast following strong weekend storms that downed trees in Massachusetts and sparked flash flooding in portions of western New England, Accuweather.com reported.
