Probe deadly roller coaster accident

ATLANTA, June 30 (UPI) -- Authorities at Six Flags Over Georgia continued their investigation Monday of the roller coaster accident that decapitated a South Carolina teenager.

Asia LeeShawn Ferguson, 17, of Columbia, S.C. was struck by "Batman the Ride" roller coaster after he scaled two 6-foot fences and entered an unsafe area, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

In a written statement, Six Flags said signs posted at the fences warned of danger and a "restricted area" accessible only to authorized park employees.

The death Saturday was the second reported for the ride since 2002 when a maintenance worker was struck in the head by a rider's foot as the roller coaster passed overhead.

Police said Ferguson was part of a group of 67 young people and adults visiting from South Carolina. He and another teen had been in the park earlier in the day and allegedly returned by climbing the fences rather than entering the front gate.

The ride was scheduled to reopen Monday.
