PRINCETON, N.J., June 30 (UPI) -- Democrats are in good position to keep their majority in Congress during the U.S. general election in November, a Gallup Poll indicates.

Among registered voters, Democrats lead Republicans 51 percent to 40 percent in party preferences for Congress, the poll released Monday indicated. Among likely voters the lead is 52 percent to 41 percent.

The Democrats' 11-point advantage among registered voters is less than what Gallup found in mid-February, when Democrats led the GOP 55 percent to 40 percent, but it is still a comfortable margin, the Princeton, N.J., polling agency said. The percentages were based on Gallup's generic question to respondents that asked which party's candidate they would vote for in their congressional district if the election were today.

Results are based on telephone interviews June 15-19 with 1,625 adults. Results based on the total sample has a margin of error of 3 percentage points. Results of 1,460 registered voters have the sampling error of 3 percentage points. Results from the 1,310 survey of likely voters have sampling error of 3 percentage points.
