Israeli spy sentenced in Iran

TEHRAN, June 30 (UPI) -- An Iranian found guilty of spying for Israel has been sentenced to death, an Iranian government agency said.

"Ali Ashtari had links with the spy agencies of the Israeli regime and transferred sensitive information from Iran's research, military and defense centers, including the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, to Mossad officers," an official at Iran's Intelligence Ministry said Monday in a statement.

The ministry's statement said Ashtari also passed along information about "certain Iranian figures" to the Mossad, an Israeli intelligence organization, Press TV of Iran reported.

The Iranian Revolutionary Court found Ashtari, 45, guilty of high treason as enemy of God. The verdict requires final approval from the Iranian Supreme Court. Ashtari has the right to appeal.
