JERUSALEM, June 27 (UPI) -- Israeli Foreign Ministry Director General Aaron Abramovich urged the International Atomic Energy Agency to quickly stop Iranian nuclear efforts.
Abramovich's comments came Wednesday while he was on a secret trip to the IAEA headquarters in Vienna where he met with ambassadors taking part in the agency's plans to halt Iranian nuclear efforts, Haaretz reported.
The meeting marked the first briefing in recent years by a senior Israeli of IAEA ambassadors, the report said.
Haaretz said Abramovich discussed Israel's worries about an ongoing nuclear project in Tehran. Abramovich also said Iran is enriching uranium and Israeli leaders think Tehran is conducting a covert military nuclear program.
"The Iranians are buying time and are not cooperating with U.N. Security Council demands and the recommendations of the international community. This must be addressed, and the IAEA is one of the entities that can do that," he said in the Haaretz report.
