Colorado fire grows

GUFFEY, Colo., June 27 (UPI) -- A wildfire in Park County, Colo., spread to more than 1,000 acres Friday, forcing about 100 homes to be evacuated, officials said.

The Nash Ranch fire started Thursday afternoon east of Guffey, Colo., The Denver Post reported.

About 5 percent of the fire is contained, and winds in the area are steady at about 15 mph but gusting to 40 mph, said Linda Balough, a Park County spokeswoman.

Air tankers were helping battle the blaze, along with 125 firefighters, the newspaper reported.

Firefighters also are battling a fire on 15 acres near Idaho Springs north of Echo Lake.
