LAS VEGAS, June 26 (UPI) -- Las Vegas parents of a disabled 4-year-old who died after being left 17 hours in a SUV are facing murder charges.
Authorities arrested and charged Stanley and Colleen Rimer on Wednesday with second-degree murder in their son's death along with multiple child endangerment charges because of filthy living conditions and a history of physical abuse of their children, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Thursday.
"These allegations are very disturbing," District Attorney David Roger said.
The child, Jason, who suffered from myotonic dystrophy, which stunted his mental and physical development, was found dead June 9. He had been left in the car when the family returned from church.
Family members all said they hadn't realized Jason was missing all day. That night, Colleen Rimer woke up about 1 a.m. to go to the bathroom and "didn't have the right kind of feeling. You know what I mean?" she reportedly told police. She went back to sleep.
