WASHINGTON, June 25 (UPI) -- Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., has called on her former backers to take the side of presumptive Democratic U.S. presidential nominee Barack Obama.

Clinton urged lawmakers to support the Illinois senator at a meeting Wednesday on Washington's Capitol Hill, ABC News reported.

"I am 100 percent committed to doing everything I possibly can to make sure that Senator Obama is sworn in as the next president of the United States next January here in this Capitol," Clinton said.

The meeting was one of numerous upcoming events aiming to make Democrats aware the former opponents are working together, the U.S. network said.

Clinton is expected to appear at a fundraiser for Obama at Washington's Mayflower Hotel Thursday and campaign with him in Unity, N.H., Friday.
