Bodies of missing Texas children recovered
PASADENA, Texas, June 21 (UPI) -- Police in Texas say they may have recovered the bodies of two missing children in suburban Houston.
Investigators say they believe they have found the body of 7-year old Randy Sylvester Jr. and of his 3-year old sister, Denim Sylvester, KRIV-TV in Houston reported.
The two children from Pasadena, Texas, were last seen last Sunday afternoon. The children's father, Randy Sylvester, allegedly led police to a wooded area where the remains were found shortly after midnight Friday, authorities said.
Police earlier in their investigation named Sylvester as a suspect but did not charge him with the children's disappearance, the station reported. He was charged Saturday with assault with bodily injury to a family member for allegedly attacking the children's mother Monday night. He has not been charged for the deaths of the children.
Six killed in Afghan bombings
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, June 21 (UPI) -- Six members of the international forces in Afghanistan were killed Saturday in several bomb attacks, military officials say.
A statement from the U.S.-led coalition said four troops were killed near Kandahar when an improvised bomb detonated and was followed by small-arms fire from unknown sources, the Alalam News Network reported.
"Four coalition service members were killed and two more were seriously wounded today in an IED (improvised explosive device) strike while conducting operations in Kandahar province," the statement read.
A bomb explosion in Farah province overnight also claimed the life of one coalition member, the coalition said.
Meanwhile, in Paktika province, a Polish soldier serving in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force was killed in another improvised bomb explosion, the Polish Defense Ministry said.
The news network said the deaths brought the total death toll this year of foreign soldiers in Afghanistan to 99.
Mugabe says 'only God' can remove him
BULAWAYO, Zimbabwe, June 21 (UPI) -- Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe says "only God," and not an election, can remove him from power.
The BBC reported Mugabe as making the comments in front supporters in the southern city of Bulawayo, campaigning against the political challenge posed by the Movement for Democratic Change and its presidential candidate, Morgan Tsavgirai.
"We will never allow an event like an election to reverse our independence, our sovereignty," he said. "Only God, who appointed me, will remove me -- not the MDC, not the British."
Mugabe also reportedly accused the MDC of making up its claims that at least 70 of its supporters have been killed by police and paramilitary Mugabe supporters. That claim was echoed by Mugabe's police chief, Augustine Chihuri, who said the MDC itself is to blame for the political violence in Zimbabwe.
"All necessary force will be applied on malcontents and perpetrators of violence," the BBC reported him as saying. "This violence is aimed at intimidating people from voting."
Tiger kills three in Bangladesh
DHAKA, Bangladesh, June 21 (UPI) -- A Royal Bengal tiger has killed three villagers in southwestern Bangladesh, officials say.
The tiger, one of only 660 left in the Sunderban mangrove forests, crept into the village Friday night, The Daily Telegraph reported Saturday.
After learning the big cat had killed three people, the villagers poured onto the streets with clubs and machetes to hunt the animal.
The cat was lassoed and strung up before being beaten to death, the newspaper said.
Officials say about 20 Bangladeshis are killed by tigers every year.
Biologists say the number of tiger attacks on people has grown in recent years because the big cat's natural habitat has diminished.
