Tape of accused family-killer played

WOBURN, Mass., June 20 (UPI) -- Massachusetts jurors heard a two-hour taped trans-Atlantic telephone call Friday between a state trooper and a man accused of killing his wife and daughter.

Neil Entwistle on the tape denied the killings, the Boston Herald reported. He told Sgt. Robert Manning that he thought about killing himself when he found the bodies and could not explain why he fled to England without calling police.

Entwistle is on trial in Middlesex County Superior Court in Massachusetts, charged with two murders.

"God. No. No. I couldn't do that," Entwistle told Manning. "Why would I do that? I don't see why anyone would have the opportunity to do that."

He said that he pulled a sheet over the bodies, describing it as "closing them off."

Rachel Entwistle, 27, and the couple's 9-month-old daughter, Lillian Rose, were shot dead in their home in suburban Hopkinton. Entwistle allegedly stole a .22-caliber gun from his in-laws and used it in the killings.

He described his state of mind as "trance-like" when he left the house.
