Simon Mann finishes 2-day testimony

MALABO, Equatorial Guinea, June 20 (UPI) -- British mercenary Simon Mann, who took part in a failed coup attempt in Equatorial Guinea, finished his testimony and cross-examination, officials say.

Mann, an ex-British Army officer, said in his two-day testimony that Mark Thatcher, son of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, belonged to the "management team" planning the coup, the Zimbabwean Guardian reported Friday.

He also said Lebanese businessman, Eli Calil, was "the boss" of the unsuccessful operation to oust the Equatorial Guinea president, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, in 2004.

The prosecution said it wants Mann to receive at least a 32-year jail sentence for his admitted participation in the coup plot.

Mann told officials in his testimony that Spanish and South African federal officials backed the plan.

Attorney General Jose Olo Obono said officials plan to call for the extradition of Thatcher and Calil.
