MIAMI, June 18 (UPI) -- Animal control officials say they had no choice but to euthanize nearly 70 sick dogs and cats taken this week from a North Miami home.

The animals were stricken with mange and other ailments and were too ill and were euthanized shortly after being discovered at the dilapidated home, an official told Tthe Miami Herald.

"This is a very sad case, but it is all too common," said Xiomara Mordcovich of Miami-Dade County Animal Services.

The agency said four Chihuahua-mix dogs were healthy enough to be put up for adoption.

The battered pack was found in the home of 55-year-old Beverly Prady. She remained in jail Tuesday night on felony animal cruelty charges, the Herald said.
