Principal accused of altering test results

ASHVILLE, Ohio, June 16 (UPI) -- Ohio education officials say a grade school principal's license should be suspended after it was determined she altered student test results.

The Ohio Department of Education has recommended the punishment for Stacey Carna, who led Ashville, Ohio, Elementary School last year when the alleged cheating occurred. They say Carna, 38, of Pickerington, Ohio, changed the answers on students' tests to achieve higher marks for the school, the Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch reported.

Teays Valley, Ohio, Schools Superintendent Jeff Sheets says he sent state education officials a letter last week about the tests, detailing what his investigators had found. The newspaper said a group of teachers, two secretaries and the school's custodial staff discovered Carna's alleged plot.

The principal, however, maintains her innocence, saying in a statement given to school officials, "I clearly told (the superintendent) that I did not alter tests in any way, and that I did not have any firsthand knowledge of any security breach relating to the altering of student answers or test access in the storage room."
