ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, June 16 (UPI) -- Pakistan, responding to warnings from Afghan President Hamid Karzai, says it won't allow anyone to interfere in its internal affairs.
The strong response came after Karzai warned that his country has a right to chase terrorists into Pakistan from where Taliban insurgents are suspected of launching attacks.
"We neither interfere in other countries' internal affairs nor will we allow anyone to interfere in ours," Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani was quoted by Dawn, a Pakistani newspaper.
The Pakistani Foreign Office said Afghan security forces can take whatever action they want against militants inside their country but not on Pakistani territory, the report said.
Ministry spokesman Mohammad Sadiq told Dawn he hoped Karzai's remarks wouldn't restart what he called a blame game by Afghanistan.
Karzai was quoted by CNN as telling reporters Islamic militants who launch attacks in Afghanistan flee across the mountainous border into havens in Pakistan's tribal areas should be deemed fair game for his troops to pursue.
Last week, Taliban militants attacked an Afghan prison and freed hundreds of inmates including more than 300 Taliban members.
