Hacker fights extradition to U.S.

LONDON, June 16 (UPI) -- A systems analyst wanted in the United States for hacking into U.S. military computers is taking his fight against extradition to Britain's House of Lords.

Gary McKinnon, 44, has been battling to remain in England since his indictment in 2005 on charges of causing nearly $1 million in damage by gaining access to computer systems belonging to the Pentagon and NASA, The Daily Telegraph reported Monday.

McKinnon doesn't deny accessing 97 computer systems but says he was motivated only by curiosity.

His lawyers argue he has been subjected to improper threats and extradition would breach his human rights.

They also say if extradited he faces an unknown length of time in pretrial detention with no likelihood of bail.

Final judgment on McKinnon's case will be made by the five law lords who sit on the highest court in Britain.
