BRUSSELS, June 16 (UPI) -- European Union foreign ministers say they'll attempt to chart a course forward for the proposed Lisbon Treaty this week after its rejection by Irish voters.

The ministers are set to meet for two days starting Thursday in Brussels, and they're expected to discuss the EU's next move in its quest to convince all 27 member countries to ratify the measure to consolidate and enhance some of its powers, the BBC reported Monday.

Meanwhile, Irish Foreign Minister Michael Martin warned that it was "far too early" for the EU to make any big decisions regarding the proposed treaty's fate, saying there were "no quick fix solutions" for its unpopularity in Ireland and elsewhere.

"The people's decision has to be respected and we have to chart a way through," he told the broadcaster, which reported that EU officials will try to figure out what went wrong in Ireland and determine how voters' concerns could be addressed sufficiently to hold a second referendum.
