GALENA, Alaska, June 15 (UPI) -- Police in Galena, Alaska, say a man shot and killed black bear after the bruin aggressively lunged at a girl and man, and scuffled with a dog.

Howard Beasley was returning home Saturday when his wife told him a bear wouldn't leave neighbor Christopher Kriska's yard, the Anchorage Daily News reported.

Kriska said the bear came at him and tangled with his dog after it charged at a 14-year-old girl.

Beasley said he left immediately to help and wound up shooting the bear with a 12-gauge shotgun before any people were hurt.

"I just happened to see the bear coming out of the woods again," Beasley said. "It was only 30 feet away, and it put its head down and huffed up his shoulders like he was getting ready -- was coming out no matter what. I went ahead and popped him with the gun."
