LUDINGTON, Mich., June 13 (UPI) -- Ten inches of rain fell overnight on the Michigan shore of Lake Michigan, turning campgrounds and parking lots into mini-lakes Friday morning.
Sarah Underwood, working the front desk of a Ramada Inn on U.S. 10, told the Muskegon Chronicle the hotel was trying to cope with storm damage and an influx of guests. She said ceiling tiles fell at the hotel when high winds torn through the region Thursday evening.
"This all happened around 8-9 p.m.," she said. "We had a lot more walk-ins, people traveling from the state park and from the Manistee area looking for shelter."
The National Weather Service said that the area usually gets about 13 inches of rain through mid-June every year. The storm dumped 10 inches in seven hours.
Campers were evacuated Friday from Ludington State Park, the Ludington Daily News reported. Workers said people with weekend reservations were being advised the park is closed.
