Man jailed in explosives probe

CLARION, Pa., June 11 (UPI) -- A Pennsylvania man suspected of making explosive golf balls is set to remain behind bars after a magistrate said he poses a threat to others.

Marvin E. Hall was taken into police custody Sunday after police say they found several weapons, including firearms and explosives inside his residence, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Wednesday.

Police said he is facing Jan. 11, charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and transfer of an unregistered firearm. Hall received a 27-month federal prison sentence in 1999 for having unregistered firearms.

Pennsylvania police and FBI agents said they began probing Hall's activities in 2005, after officers encountered him at a "flamethrower party," a meeting for local residents, firearm owners and people interested in joining the militia in Clarion County.

Hall told disguised officers he did not belong to a militia group, but would link himself to the 91st Warrior group, special agent Daniel Yocca told U.S. Magistrate Judge Amy Reynolds Hay.
