WASHINGTON, June 10 (UPI) -- Republican presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain will visit Colombia for one day in early July, a Colombian newspaper said.
The Arizona senator will meet with President Alvaro Uribe, The Politico reported, citing a report in Tuesday's edition of El Tiempo.
The newspaper said potential stops include the capital Bogota, Medellin and Cartagena.
Among discussion topics for McCain and Uribe is the free trade deal between the U.S. and Colombia that has stalled in Congress.
The visit also comes as tensions have increased between Colombia and Venezuela, whose president ,Hugo Chavez, has belittled Uribe for his close relationship with the U.S. government.
McCain's trip will mark his second trip abroad since clinching the Republican presidential nomination.
In March, he visited Iraq, the Middle East and Europe.
