Historic home moved in New York

NEW YORK, June 8 (UPI) -- The historic New York home of the first U.S. treasury secretary, Alexander Hamilton, has been moved to its new spot in St. Nicholas Park, officials say.

It took several hours Saturday for workers to lift the 206-year-old home from its plot in the city's Harlem borough and inch it slowly to nearby St. Nicholas Park, the New York Daily News reported.

"It was a really, really big job. We've done it before, but this job was No. 1," said Tadeusz Bogdan, 49, of Longwolfe Home Movers in Bernville, Pa., the company in charge of the move.

Workers said they had to lift the 298-ton home about 40 feet above the ground before it was in position to be placed on several dollies and hauled the distance of a few blocks.

The National Parks Service is managing the $8.4 million project to move and restore the home, the newspaper said.
