NEW YORK, June 6 (UPI) -- Political analysts say recent maneuvering within the New York state Republican Party leadership may mean Rudy Giuliani will run for governor.

The New York Daily News said Friday that the former New York may and one-time presidential candidate is working to get one of his top political aides, Anthony Carbonetti, installed as the state party chairman.

But that effort is bumping heads with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, whom the newspaper said was exploring his own gubernatorial bid and wants state legislator Tom Reynolds to replace current GOP Chairman Joe Mondello.

A source told the New York Post that Giuliani may be making noise about Albany in part to build up some new buzz among Republican activists and contributors as he struggles to erase some $3 million in debt from his presidential campaign.

"As long as Rudy seems like he's actually doing something and running for another office, then there's a value to him," the source said.
