POTSDAM, Germany, June 6 (UPI) -- Officials with a concentration camp memorial in the eastern German state of Brandenburg said the site has been targeted by vandals.
The officials said unidentified vandals, believed by authorities to be right-wing extremists, destroyed flower pots and the entrance door to the Belower Wald memorial -- which commemorates the death march of prisoners from the Sachsenhausen concentration camp during the final days of World War II, Deutsch Welle reported Friday.
Guenter Morsch, who oversees memorial sites in Brandenburg, said the vandals also attempted to destroy a security-glass window at the memorial during Thursday's incident.
"The new attack on the museum worries us greatly," Morsch said.
He said memorial sites for Nazi atrocities remain targets for neo-Nazi extremists.
