Noose-hanging teen gets rare punishment

OVIEDO, Fla., June 5 (UPI) -- A Florida teen found guilty of putting a noose on a black family's property received an unusual sentence requiring him to attend class and study history.

A judge Wednesday ordered the teen to attend counseling sessions, participate in diversity classes, study the history of lynching and culture and complete a 500-word report on each subject, WKMG-TV, Orlando, Fla. reported.

The teen is also required to send the family an apology letter.

The teen said in court he was unaware of the severity of his action and intended the noose to be nothing more than a prank.
