Mom convicted of leaving 2-year-old alone

LINCOLN, England, June 5 (UPI) -- A young English woman has been convicted of leaving her 2-year-old son locked in the kitchen of her apartment while she spent a weekend elsewhere.

A judge warned Kelly Tollerton, 22, that she is almost certain to receive a custodial sentence later this month, The Daily Mail reported. Tollerton was found guilty of child neglect and perverting the course of justice.

Police in Lincoln found the toddler after a downstairs neighbor reported that water was coming through the ceiling. Investigators said the little boy had been getting scraps out of the garbage for food and sleeping on dirty laundry.

Tollerton said that a friend was supposed to be caring for the boy while she spent some time with her boyfriend.
