PITTSBURGH, June 4 (UPI) -- A woman who filed suit against Allegheny County, Pa., after her son's remains were misplaced has settled out of court for $15,000.
Nancie Nieradko, whose suit had been scheduled to go to trial Tuesday, filed her lawsuit after discovering that the cremated ashes she was given by the county were from her son's clothing only, WTAE-TV, Pittsburgh, reported Wednesday.
The body of Chad Mulvin was eventually returned to his family after the county coroner's office discovered it had been misplaced in 2005.
Mulvin was shot and killed by his roommate, Joseph Larkin, during a struggle at their apartment. Larkin was found not guilty of homicide in the case, but he was convicted of abusing the corpse after he buried Mulvin's body in cement.
