MOSCOW, June 4 (UPI) -- Three earthquakes but no casualties were recorded near islands off far eastern Russia on late Tuesday and early Wednesday.
The press service of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said the quakes were near the Kurile Islands of Roshua and Shikotan, the Itar-Tass news agency reported Wednesday. Earlier Tuesday a quake occurred near the island of Simushir.
The magnitude of all three quakes measured within a range of 4.5 to 4.6 on the open-ended Richter scale. No tremors were felt in population centers of the Sakhalin region, which includes the entire Kurile range from north to south, and no threat of a tsunami was reported.
