Three U.S. soldiers die in northern Iraq

HAWIJA, Iraq, June 4 (UPI) -- Officials say three U.S. soldiers were killed in a small-arms attack and 15 Iraqis died in a truck bomb explosion in Iraq violence Wednesday.

The three U.S. soldiers were killed in what is being described by military officials as a "small-arms fire attack," CNN reported, adding that the incident happened in Hawija near Kirkuk. The network said the deaths raised the number of U.S. military personnel killed in Iraq to 4,090, with six deaths so far in June.

Meanwhile, Iraqi interior ministry officials said 15 people were killed and at least 65 others were wounded by a truck bomb in a predominantly Shiite Baghdad neighborhood, CNN reported, adding that a mortar round killed two people and wounded five others in the same neighborhood.
