Parents try suicide after son's death

BRIDGEND, Wales, June 4 (UPI) -- Friends and family say the parents of Welsh toddler who died accidentally from drinking methadone tried to kill themselves in a double suicide attempt.

The death of 2-year-old Dylan Hughes from drinking methadone he thought was fruit juice "devastated" parents Paul Jones, 30, and Crystal, 24, the couple's friends told the Daily Mail Wednesday. The couple reacted to the tragedy by trying to kill themselves with a lethal dose of alcohol and drugs near their home in South Wales, authorities said.

The newspaper said the couple was recovering at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend, Wales. Passers-by found them after they fell unconscious in a parked car.

"They've been through hell and back over Dylan's death," a friend said. "It is very tragic for all their family and friends. They know nothing will bring Dylan back -- perhaps they just wanted to be with him."
