OSHAWA, Ontario, June 4 (UPI) -- Canadian police said they have charged a 60-year-old Ontario man with attempting to electrocute his wife and trying to escape from police in a car.

Authorities said the man's wife was in the shower early Sunday when she was shocked several times while touching the taps, the Toronto Star reported Wednesday.

The woman said she later found a hole in the bathroom wall where open electrical wires were connected to the plumbing. She called police, telling them her husband strangled her and took off in his car after she asked him about the incident.

Police said they had to chase the man at high speeds for some time before he was stopped and arrested.

The man faces charges of mischief endangering life, aggravated assault, two counts of assault causing bodily harm and failing to stop for police, the newspaper said.
