Governor Eliot Spitzer resigns from office at a press conference in New York

NEW YORK, June 3 (UPI) -- The reputed madam who led to the ouster of New York Gov. Elliott Spitzer pleaded guilty Tuesday to running an international prostitution ring.

Cecil "Katie" Suwal, 23, of New York entered her guilty plea in U.S. District Court but remains free on bail until her sentencing in September, Newsday reported. Suwal could be sentenced to more than two years in federal prison, the New York newspaper said.

Suwal ran the Emperor's Club VIP, which arranged for a Washington rendezvous between Spitzer and a prostitute early this year, and laundered the operation's money, prosecutors charged.

The New York Post reported sources said Suwal agreed to testify before a federal grand jury investigation that could lead to charges against Spitzer.
