NEW YORK, June 3 (UPI) -- Democratic U.S. presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton congratulated rival Barack Obama on his campaign, but did not concede the race Tuesday night.
Clinton had been rumored to be ready concede the race to Obama after he won the delegates needed to clinch the Democratic presidential nomination, but that did not happen. Instead, the New York senator said she was making no immediate announcements about her future, CNN reported.
"Now the question is, where do we go from here? And given how far we've come and where we need to go as a party, it's a question I don't take lightly. This has been a long campaign, and I will be making no decisions tonight," Clinton told supporters.
Clinton said she planned to meet with supporters and Democratic Party leaders in the coming days to discuss her next steps. Clinton also reaffirmed that she is committed to uniting the Democratic Party to win the White House.
Speaking in St. Paul, Minn., Obama praised Clinton.
"Sen. Hillary Clinton has made history in this campaign not just because she's a woman who has done what no woman has done before, but because she's a leader who inspires millions of Americans with her strength, her courage, and her commitment to the causes that brought us here tonight," Obama said.
