GLASGOW, Scotland, May 31 (UPI) -- Two brutal homicides in the Scottish city of Glasgow this week within 24 hours of one another has stunned area residents, police say.

Detective Chief Inspector Derek Robertson said 40-year-old Moira Jones was killed in a "brutal" fashion by an unknown perpetrator, who left her body in the Glasgow park where it was eventually found, The Scotsman said Saturday.

"You can imagine with such an attack, a brutal attack on a young woman, that the quicker we identify the person responsible the better," Robertson said following Thursday's grisly discovery.

Meanwhile, the body of an unidentified woman was found Friday in a Glasgow restaurant. The Scotsman said it is suspected the woman, whose identity has not been released, was stabbed to death as she attempted to close the eatery Thursday evening.

Glasgow City Council official Kenny Boyle said the initial homicide has left the community stunned and seeking answers.

"Incidents like this in parks are extremely rare," the head of parks said. "You can imagine almost the disbelief. It is a terrible tragedy for the family."
