
NASIRIYA, Iraq, May 31 (UPI) -- French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner met with Iraqi government officials Saturday in an effort to help with the rebuilding of Iraq, officials said.
Kouchner arrived in Iraq on his second trip there in nine months and, after being received by Iraqi Vice President Adel Abdulmahdi, embarked on a visit to southern city of Nasiriya where he was set to hold talks with senior Iraqi officials, KUNA, the Kuwait News Agency, reported.
The agenda for Kouchner's trip included meetings with "the highest Iraqi authorities as well as representatives of civil society," French foreign ministry officials said in a news release, adding that Kouchner and would also go to Irbil in the Kurdish-administered northern section of the country, where he was to dedicate a new French consulate.
Also, KUNA reported, Kouchner will reiterate France's commitment to contributing support for Iraq's healthcare infrastructure as well as aid to its education and cultural rebuilding projects.
