SAN DIEGO, May 29 (UPI) -- A San Diego teenager faced arraignment Thursday on possible murder charges in the beating death of her adoptive mother.
The San Diego County District Attorney's office decided on Wednesday that 14-year-old Heather D'Aoust would be tried as an adult although the exact charges were not immediately announced.
D'Aoust was arrested shortly after Rebecca D'Aoust, 56, was found mortally wounded on the floor of the family's home in the middle-class Scripps Ranch neighborhood on Sunday.
The San Diego Union-Tribune said investigators had not stated a suspected motive for the slaying. One of Heather's former classmates told the newspaper she had written about personal and family troubles on her MySpace page.
The victim was a guidance counselor at a San Diego elementary school. She died on Monday.
