WASHINGTON, May 29 (UPI) -- Barack Obama's presidential campaign has released a statement from the Illinois senator's doctor saying the Democratic frontrunner is in excellent health.

Obama's doctor said the presidential hopeful has been an "intermittent" cigarette smoker who has "quit on several occasions and is currently using Nicorette gum with success," CNN reported Thursday.

The release of the statement follows the release of presumptive Republican nominee John McCain's health records last week.

Mayo Clinic doctors said they could find no physical reason why the 71-year-old Arizona senator would not be able to carry out the duties of the presidency.
