DNC seeks Florida, Michigan compromise

WASHINGTON, May 29 (UPI) -- The Democratic National Committee will meet Saturday to discuss seating the Florida and Michigan delegations at its August convention, officials said.

One of the goals is for party officials to draft a plan that can be backed by the two Democratic presidential hopefuls: Sens. Hillary Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois, CNN reported Thursday.

For her part, Clinton has said the votes cast in the two state's primaries should be counted so as not to disenfranchise voters.

Obama says he is open to a compromise, but insists Florida and Michigan results are invalid because the states violated party rules by holding their primaries earlier than allowed.

Neither candidate campaigned in the states. Clinton won about 50 percent of the Florida vote, compared to 33 percent for Obama. She won 55 percent of the vote in Michigan, but Obama was not on the ballot in the Wolverine State.
