WASHINGTON, May 28 (UPI) -- A Democratic National Committee panel acted properly when stripping Florida and Michigan of their convention delegates, an analysis by DNC attorneys said.
"The analysis maintains that the (Rules and Bylaws Committee) did have proper authority and jurisdiction in imposing the 100 percent sanction," the DNC said in a statement issued Wednesday. "The BC had wide latitude in that decision."
The rules committee will meet Saturday to consider what to do with the delegates after Florida and Michigan violated party rules by changing their primary dates. The DNC barred the states' delegates from being seated at the national nominating convention in Denver in August.
"The staff analysis is intentionally neutral; it does not make specific recommendations," the DNC said. " The analysis lays out a rules framework for each challenge, and the issues raised within each challenge."
