Iraqi Interior ministry employee arrested

BAGHDAD, May 27 (UPI) -- An Iraqi Interior Ministry employee was detained, having been linked to alleged insurgent activities, the U.S. military said Tuesday.

The employee was detained as a suspected leader of a Shiite extremist group involved in kidnapping and killing Iraqis, CNN reported.

The employee reportedly lead a group with ties to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the military said. The suspect allegedly led a 300-member group that smuggled weapons and carried out roadside attacks with explosives that penetrate armor, the U.S. military said.

The employee was arrested Sunday.
