HONOLULU, May 25 (UPI) -- Sen. Daniel Inouye, D-Hawaii, married Irene Hirano in a weekend ceremony in Beverly Hills, Calif., his office said Sunday.

Inouye, an 83-year-old World War II veteran, said in a written statement that he and his 59-year-old bride were "truly touched by the outpouring of love and warmth."

Hirano is the president of the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles. Her age was not mentioned in the statement.

After the ceremony at All Saints' Episcopal Church Saturday afternoon -- at which his son Ken served as best man and her daughter Jennifer was maid of honor -- the Inouyes headed up the California coast to Carmel for their honeymoon.
