KABUL, Afghanistan, May 25 (UPI) -- One boy was killed and two more were injured Sunday when a car bomber crashed into a NATO convoy in southern Afghanistan, authorities said.

Three military personnel also were wounded in the blast, which occurred when a man in an explosives-armed car hit the convoy in Kandahar province, a Canadian military spokesman said.

The injured boys were seen near the edge of the road when the bombing occurred, Kandahar police officer Abdul Hadi said.

Meanwhile, U.S. military officials said a soldier serving with the U.S.-led coalition was killed during a mission in Farah province Sunday.

Afghan authorities said 12 Taliban rebels and two officers died in a police operation that went on for two hours in the province.
