Feds sought ethanol company records

RALEIGH, N.C., May 23 (UPI) -- Federal authorities subpoenaed a North Carolina state agency for records from Agri-Ethanol Products of Raleigh as part of a corruption probe, documents show.

The November 2007 subpoena was related to a federal corruption charge against Boyce Allen Hudson, a former North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources official who is accused of trying to expedite permits for an ethanol company in exchange for cash, the Raleigh (N.C.) News & Observer reported Friday.

Hudson will plead guilty to the charges next week in federal court, court papers show.

Agri-Ethanol Products President David Brady resigned 12 days after federal investigators served the subpoena, corporate filings indicate.

Among other things, the subpoena sought information about the Department of Environment and Natural Resources' dealings with North Carolina's Northeast Partnership, a regional economic development group, for a theater in Roanoke Rapids, N.C.
