GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba, May 22 (UPI) -- A Guantanamo Bay detainee from Afghanistan was dragged into the courtroom against his will for his first appearance before a judge, officials said.

Mohhammed Kamin told the U.S. military court he did not want to participate in proceedings Wednesday and refused to cooperate with his appointed defense attorney.

Kamin had to be forcibly removed from his cell at the detention center for accused terrorists. Military officials said he tried to bite guards and spat on them, The Miami Herald reported Thursday.

The Afghan defendant is accused of spying on U.S. forces in Afghanistan in 2003 as well as setting up and launching missiles.
