NEW YORK, May 16 (UPI) -- A 26-year-old man facing rape and homicide charges in Pennsylvania has been arrested in New York, authorities say.
Police said Philadelphia native Ritchie Yaris was arrested after allegedly being found in a stolen rental sport utility vehicle this week, the New York Post reported Friday.
After being arrested by officers, Yaris allegedly escaped from a moving police car by kicking open one of its doors. Police said Thursday the rape suspect was apprehended a half a block away from the escape scene.
The Post said Yaris was accused of fatally shooting a 19-year-old man in Philadelphia on April 21 and allegedly carjacking a couple on May 11. Police said he allegedly raped the woman while her companion drove and later killed the man.
