LAS VEGAS, May 14 (UPI) -- Investigators had yet to determine whether a dead baby found in the trash at a Las Vegas casino was born alive, police said Tuesday.

A casino employee found the remains Sunday evening at the Excalibur, KLAS-TV reported. The body, a boy, was in a pillowcase and a hotel gift bag in a women's bathroom.

Police were checking videotape from security cameras at the Excalibur to see if they could find any one likely to be the mother. But they also appealed for the woman to come forward or for hotel employees who might have noticed anything to get in touch.

An autopsy was to be performed on the remains. If the baby was alive at birth, the mother could face a homicide charge.
